“Mad Hatter: “Why is a raven like a writing-desk?”
“Have you guessed the riddle yet?” the Hatter said, turning to Alice again.
“No, I give it up,” Alice replied: “What’s the answer?”
“I haven’t the slightest idea,” said the Hatter”
AnElephantCant say it too often
He thinks that sanity is quite overrated
Most of his friends
Are a bit round the bend
Although they do like to claim they’re creative
There is nothing wrong with being eccentric
Or even a bit doodle-oo
Or charmingly nuts
Or a little bit bats
Or to be absolightfully cuckoo
This is how we try to hold on to our childhood
When we thought all these wonderful thoughts
But we have to own up
Now that we’re grown up
To only thinking the things we’ve been taught
A child is just like a blank canvas
Waiting to become a great work of art
There is no restriction
As to the direction
It already has a perfect fresh start
When you take a child to the park for the first time
Or the city or maybe the zoo
The look of delight
As they see each new site
Begins to work that same magic on you
You start to sing again the songs you grew up with
The ones that you thought you’d forgotten
All the really great stuff
Teddy Bear Old Shep Puff
And you can tell all those jokes about bottoms
And not only that they are functional
And better than a daft hula hoop
For relieving your stress
They can sing the yeah yeahs
You have your own portable backing group
So remember to act a bit childish
It is good to refresh the old brain
A whiff of fresh air
And if you take care
It may stop you from going completely insane
Great poem. I am fascinated by how your mind works! 🙂

You poem has been up all day…..for hours. Do you know why I never get here to read and comment until late in the day?
Because I am over at my own blog trying to act just as you suggested. You may not believe it but it takes me all day to act silly and batty.
And you thought I was a natural.

You, Meems, are a natural. No idea what, but, boy, is it ever natural!

This is a wonderful poem! I do completely agree with your sentiments. But I especially enjoyed the creativity in the prose! Thank you very much! 🙂

He is dead chuffed when Penny drops by
His spirits are raised
When she gives him praise
Aw shucks now he is going all shy

AnElephant has definitely told it how it is. By acting like a child sometimes can throw us back and give us energy. Even more so when we can do that with children, as they can bring out the young in us 🙂
Thanks for a great post. I love the rhymes you do, and how you think them up every day. A definite skill 🙂

Thanks Alastair, some of us do tend to take life a bit seriously sometimes!
And the real skill is convincing people that this makes any kind of sense.

I’ve just put something similar on a different blog. I said on there that as we grow older, we forget that it doesn’t always mean we have to grow up. I suppose sometimes it helps us if we grow down so to speak.
It’s a definite skill I lack. I have trouble doing one every couple of weeks lol
