A Surreal Snowball

AnElephantCant say he knows anything
About talented artists and sculptors
He doesn’t know if there’s any
Difference between Monet and Manet
He unfortunately just isn’t too cultured

But he ponders great art when it’s cold out
And he polishes up his toboggan
When it starts to freeze
He pictures the South Seas
And realises this was never a problem for Gauguin

AnElephant can be inspired by a sculpture
It can keep him warm throughout a long winter
He contemplates Rodin
All the months he is snowed in
As you know AnElephant is a Thinker

Then there’s Degas with his ballerinas
And Renoir who also Impressed
But in hail or in sleet
In Cubes sugar sweet
Pablo Picasso was an all-weather success

AnElephant’s favourite is Vincent
Who the Americans pronounce as Van Go
We call him Van Gogh
So his name rhymes with loch
Just imagine his Starry Night in the snow

As the temperature rises each day now
The opportunities for inspiration are fewer
But he thinks it’s clear
The snowmen seen here
Were inspired by the great Henry Moore

  2. I completely agree with Penny – she says all that was in my head! I love this post, the photos and the poem (as always) but especially enjoyed the trail through the artists. We are lucky enough to have the Barbara Hepworth garden very near by. Your snow sculptures would have fitted in there so well, the only problem being that here in Cornwall it’s 10* so they would have melted much too soon! 🙂
Happy New Year to you. Sorry I haven’t been around for a while. The bronchitis beast has had me in thrall but I will go back and read what I’ve been missing 🙂

This is a great post. The title and the photographs set the stage for your clever interpretations of art and artists in a most wonderful and intelligent manner and as always it rhymes, Love this one!

  5. Elephant seems to know his art ,
which seems a suitable start .
I’m sure if he tried his best ,
he would be as good as the rest .
    Then anelephantcant say ,
he won’t be a sculptor one day .xx

    • AnElephantCant say he knows much about these things
He is a pachyderm and not really cultured
      But he takes KKKK’s praise
      Comes out of his daze
And has a quick bash at a sculpture

Your saying that has reminded me of the paintings my son did of Monet’s (I think) sunflowers and Van Gogh’s Starry Night. I was almost convinced once to just take photos of the art and then destroy it, but I couldn’t do that. So I think I shall endeavour to remember to hunt them out in the next few days.

Thank you, Mr Elephant for reminding me of them.

  7. AnElephantCAN be a sculptor! Wrap a warm scarf around your trunk next time and you’ll be more comfortable 🙂

Go on, say something, even if it's rude!
