February – Blood Red and Blood Shed

valentinesAnElephantCant have much fun with this month
He does not have a good rhyme for February
He is in a quandary
Considering orrery
And whether secretary was less awful than estuary

There is never too much that is happening
Perhaps because it only has 28 days
29 if Leap Year
But it is still all too clear
It is short there’s not much to appraise

But on the second we watch for the Groundhog
Surprisingly important in the US of A
Both Washington and Lincoln
Had mummies with an inkling
Their birthdays share this month with President’s Day

And it is the time of the Superbowl
Which even wardrobe malfunction can never prevent
If you read the papers
You see this is the apex
It is the greatest American sporting event

The 14th of course it is St Valentine’s Day
When romantic chaps become devious plotters
Chocolates and a red rose
To sweet belles from their beaux
On the anniversary of all those gang dudes being slaughtered

So AnElephant has no more to say
About these four weeks of Purification*
By the time it reaches its end
AnElephant is ready to wend
His way homeward to civilisation

*The Romans held the purification ritual Februa on the 15th day of the month.

    Emmy thinks orrery
Is a good rhyme for february
    Sun stays out longer
    A la bonne heure!
    Ground hog day here
    Becomes la Chandleur
    Pagan feast of lights
    When we eat crepes…delight

I can’t really think of anything to rhyme either. But that could be because it’s nearly bedtime over here in the real world 😉 But I hope that AnElephant has enjoyed his time over there. How will AnElephant get home? Will he pack it up in a pachyderm? Sorry – that was just plane silly 😉
