AnElephantCant hide his affection
For doggies they are so much fun
They may not always be bright
Their bark is worse that their bite
But throw a stick and they run and they run

There have been a kennillion famous pooches
On TV and in the movies
Deputy Dawg Dougal and Droopy
Huckleberry Hound Cujo and Snoopy
And the big weird-looking dude who’s called Scooby

Mutts have been painted by Picasso and Goya
They smoke cigars and play stud poker
Argos waits for Odysseus
Beware 3-headed Cerberus
And we laugh at Muttley the practical joker

In Scotland we have our own legend
Greyfriars Bobby guarded a grave boo hoo
For 14 long years
But you need have no fears
If you are in trouble then Lassie will save you too

There are several songs about mongrels
One called Boo by a chap named Lobo
Elvis sang Old Shep and Hound
Bowie’s was a Diamond
And we don’t know how much is the one in the window

You always know if your canine is happy
There is one test that never can fail
Pat him on the head
Unless he is dead
Your best friend can’t help wagging his tail
