AnElephantCant quite believe it
The UN has something to say
It issues a decree
Thank goodness it’s free
Today is World Happiness Day*

In order to promote our spiritual well-being
We must make other people feel better
If a lady shoves past you
To the front of the queue
You bite your tongue nod your head and just let her

It is a day for a random act of kindness
Be nice to each nuisance you meet
If you’re on the bus
Don’t make a big fuss
Get up and give that granny your seat

Laugh and the world laughs with you
Do you think there is any truth in that
If you behave nicely
Isn’t it just as likely
That it is you that they’re all laughing at

Now AnElephant is perhaps a bit cynical
And he may very well be mistaken
But how many of you folk
Really believe it’s a joke
And smile even though your heart is breaking

In Scotland we don’t often do cheerful
Even if we have ten thousand reasons to be glad
It is typically Scottish
To employ litotes
We say Aye well I suppose things aren’t too bad

* Yes, really.
