Getting into Literary Fiction
AnElephantCant always be factual
He suffers from a terrible affliction
By hook or by crook
He gets into a book
And rambles around in a world of pure fiction
He has daily Adventures like Tom Sawyer
Like Huck he has a lifestyle carefree
He is surprisingly healthy
Though not at all wealthy
Unlike the chap in Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby
He isn’t too keen on the ocean
Although he loves The Old Man and the Sea
But in Moby Dick
Ahab has a sharp stick
In Treasure Island Long John Silver maroons folk with glee
Here in Scotland Iain Banks has a Wasp Factory
Sir Walter tells about Ivanhoe
Conan Doyle writes the truth
About the world’s greatest sleuth
Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s Sunset Song tells of woe
In Europe Camus describes The Stranger
And long ago Virgil quilled The Aeneid
Hesse exercises the brain
Kafka drives you insane
And Voltaire just delights with Candide
AnElephantCant pretend he’s philosophical
He struggles to comprehend Sartre
Heller confuses him anew
With Catch 22
He prefers to live in a World According to Garp
And he does adore literary ladies
Like Rebecca in drear Manderley
There is meddlesome Emma
Scarlett – please don’t condemn her
And the too fickle Madame Bovary
Of course he most admires Sir Lancelot
And tough guys like Philip Marlowe
James Bond he admires
Gandalf’s magic inspires
But Tarzan is AnElephant’s top hero
Thank you. A fun and great way to remind people of some excellent books to read. Nothing beats a good book! 🙂 xx

Dear Elephant are you aware
Of a site fair
Called http://www.bookcrossing.com? A fun place visit
you can with folks from all over the globe sit-it
while setting books free – if seeing where volumes travel is your care.
I’m also JulesPaige there…though I haven’t poke my nose there in awhile. Some of the books I’ve register on that free site do pop up in my e-mails to say that they’ve traveled more than I!

The great escape is in fiction
When AnElephantCan indeed
Rhyme The Aenid with Candide
Emmy admires his imagination,
For sure his bookshelf amplitude
And his nearly panglossian attitude
Chaque jour est une aventure
J’en suis sure, sure.
qu’il faut vivre
vraiment comme un livre.

UnElephant ne peux pas rimer comme Emmy
Particulierement quand elle ecrit en Francais
Mais elle a raison
He puts a brave face on
Et il sort chaque fois souriant pour danser

I’m really not into fiction
Nor films neither plays nor their acts
I like to live here in the real world
I prefer being surrounded by facts
I don’t have vivid imagination
If it can’t happen it probably won’t
I think why should I read all about it?
And more often than not I just don’t
Sad I know……

AnElephantCant forget it
The memories sadly linger
Rab is a real Philistine
Though he can read just fine
AnElephant’s seen him moving his lips and his finger

Yep, he has written a couple, as well as innumerable books of poetry.
The one shown here was published over 40 years ago!

Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s Sunset Song tells of woe That was a mouthful and a half 😉
Whilst AnElephant has large array of fiction
My books are read behind closed doors
Although I like Lord of the Rings
And dragons with gossamer wings
My favourites are in the age of Star Wars

AnElephant is a believer in the Bob Dylan approach to lyric writing.
You just say what you have to say until you finish and then you pretty much know that is the end of the line!
