Once when time was long and slow
AnElephant decides that he must go
Back to the start of everything
Back to where all life begins
He knows he cannot bottle time
It slips through fingers and through minds
It can’t be fenced it can’t be boxed in
It is a simple complex concoction
Time does not move from right to left
It doesn’t go from east to west
It never varies up and down
It simply always flows around
No barrier stands in its smooth way
It changes inexorably
Nothing ever halts its progress
There is never any point to protest
It passes on it takes its toll
It tells him he is growing old
It proverbially teaches wisdom
And brings agelessness when at last death does come
Once when time was long and slow
AnElephant decides that he must go
Back to the end of everything
Back to where his life takes wing

The time has come, AnElephant said, to rhyme on many banks where the wild thyme grows –
But he has a better time, one knows!

AnElephantCant deny he is struggling
To find a rhyme for colonialist
He tries a few
To humour you
And this is what he finds the funniest

I think you’ll find that Colonialist
Likes shopping for cold meats –
He tends to have a polony-er list
To give his favourite treats.

It is a beautiful poem, but there is something very sad about it. Appreciate the artwork and the fact that the clock hands are in pink

Beautiful but sad is better than AnElephant can hope for!
Thank you for that and for noticing the clock hands, a very deliberate statement.

Beautiful! A recent dream? Well executed, the dream itself must have been fascinating! This is one of your very best pieces Brian! xo

This is so beautiful. It watered my eyes. It brought this to me:
AnElephant goes back
In time to smooth
The way it tolls
And bring life
Back to a ringing flow
Thank you for your Rhyme of Time that is like a taste of thyme.

AnElephant’s words leave me silent.
I listen to the rain fall for a moment,
recall what’s been done and said,
imagine who will be there to kiss me
when I last lay down my head.
Your poem today is so lovely and like a mobius. It’s one I’ll read again and again. Thank you for sharing it.

AnElephantCant tell his friend Tilde
How much he appreciates her rhyme
He lets down his guard
She touches his heart
He is happy at least for a short time
