The Spaceship – Friday Fictioneers

AnElephantCant understand this picture
To him it is all turvy-topsy
An odd looking thing
Which looks like it can sting
Plus a giant bee that might be a wopsy

Once again it is Friday Fictioneer time, with our gracious and delightful host, the wonderful Rochelle.
The idea is to write a very short story, circa 100 words, based on this picture prompt (below).
That’s it, really.
If you follow the link you can read hundreds, maybe thousands, even millions, of really good stories.

The Spaceship

What is that?
That is my spaceship.
And you travelled how far in it?
About 5 light years.
What is that in real distance?
Maybe 30 trillion miles.
How long did that take you?
Just a second? Wow!
For me yes, but you guys were still crawling about in slime when I left. Spacetime continuum, y’know.
It’s kind of a funny shape.
It is the height of cosmic chic back home.
And what do you use for fuel?
Extracted essence of each planet’s most intelligent life form.
But where on earth ….. Oh, that is not a nice smile!

Haha! About time we got a taste of our own medicine..

  2. Penny L Howe says:

Too too funny. I’m not sure that they’re going to be getting an actual “high grade” quality of fuel however (on this particular planet)! 🙂 xx

  3. pattisj says:

I shall avoid all spacecraft after reading this.

  4. hmv says:

Haha! You’ve gone and made hostile alien takeover a hoot, anelephantcant – nicely done!

  5. Talk about a brain drain. This explains a lot, like why ACT scores are declining, and Honey Boo Boo and Justin Bieber are popular. Just sayin’. Ron

  6. dmmacilroy says:

    Dear AEC,

That creature will find no fuel on this planet.

  7. Brilliant, just brilliant concept!

  8. howanxious says:

An ominous ending… I want to read more of it. 🙂

  9. vbholmes says:

According to AnElephant, it sounds like the Scots win hands down and we Yanks only have to worry about the fate of the runners-up when the prime fuel supply is exhausted.

  10. JKBradley says:

How is this fuel extracted, I wonder…line ’em up up up.

  11. troy P. says:

So I can only assume then, that the alien in question is speaking with a dolphin?

  12. nightlake says:

That’s probably a cruel, scary smile. Interesting read.

  13. lewis cave says:

Great story, I didn’t see that coming. Although I am with Alastari, Humans might be safe!

  14. EagleAye says:

Oy! Well I hope it gets a lot of parsecs per drop of essence! Scary and funny all at the same time. This was a great.

  15. rckjones says:

Love, love, love. Time dilation and evil aliens?! Right up my alley. Thunderous applause to you, good Elephant.

  16. Jan Brown says:

Great build-up, and a really juicy ending! Well done!

  17. JackieP says:

Hmmm I can play dumb, no problem. 😉 I loved the take on this.

  18. Bravo! Bravo! That was great from the slime to cosmic chic to the not nice smile. I loved it!!!!

    4 A’s and no B’s

  19. Dear Elephant,

This would be one of those times it pays to be a dolt. Interesting twist…the elephant has an imagination. 😉

  20. summerstommy2 says:

Nice one sir elephant. Aliens just going about their day to day business. I love that. Though you can’t help but feel sympathy for the hapless one who gets to see the ‘ smile).

    • Aren’t you just so nice!
And, as Alastair points out, the English are safe!
But the Scots are obviously in big trouble and AnElephant makes no comment on the Aussies!

      • summerstommy2 says:

Well this Aussie has to thank his Scottish grandfather for being brave enough to come to Australia and fathering his mother. I do have a soft spot for the Scots, more so I might have for the poms.

  21. WOW! That was brilliantly conceived!

  22. elmowrites says:

Like Alastair says, I think we’re safe from this one. Nice little tale though, elephant!

  23. Linda Vernon says:

    Hugely creative! ;D

  24. Joe Owens says:

Get your eyes off my essence! Nice story and quite brilliant AEC,

  25. Funny how aliens always seem to be giant insects! Maybe it the sum of our fears. Good job!

  26. Helena Hann-Basquiat says:

    Loved this one, darling!

  28. Dee says:

Loved the pace of this and the nice twist at the end – perfect

  29. Sandra says:

    Nice twist there, well paced.

  30. misskzebra says:

Man, I can’t handle chic at all, let alone cosmic chic.

  31. Alastair says:

    Whoops 😀

Thankfully humanity is not the most intelligent life form on the planet. Other species aren’t wrecking the planet 😉

Go on, say something, even if it's rude!
