AnElephantCant pretend he is calm today
He is heading back home to Scotland
Only for a few days
But he hopes to amaze
With his suntan because down here it is hot man
His home country is a mystical wonderland
Ancient castles sit on high volcanic rocks
From Culzean in the south
To Inverness at the mouth
Of the river running from the famous loch
Which is home to the Monster of legend
Just one of this land’s famous mysteries
Sawney Bean who ate folk
Jekyll and Hyde is no joke
And the spirits who walk Glencoe are our history
For centuries great battles were fought here
Stirling Bridge and Falkirk and Culloden
And of course Bannockburn
Where proud Edward turned
And went home and was happily forgotten
We’re a nation of explorers inventors and poets
Baird and Bell and Macmillan who built a bicycle
I presume Dr Livingstone
Walter Scott and Burns who did magical writables
AnElephant doesn’t mention the rivers and bridges
Doesn’t talk of the bens or the glens
Nor the bonnie purple heather
Or the truly awful weather
The lochs and islands aren’t why he goes home again
There is only one reason for his visit
There is just one face guaranteed to bring joy
That one perfect smile
He hasn’t seen for a while
He just wants to spend time with his beautiful boy
The greatest love – parent for child. Enjoy your trip and your beautiful boy – guaranteed to bring your joy! 🙂
Thank you for taking the time, very sweet of you.
Oh, grandson, in fact, the beautiful boy of my angel girl!
Ah, a pleasure I am yet to enjoy. But I hear it is so wonderful. So happy for you. Look forward to more posts when you return.
Thank you again.
And be aware, AnElephant is not really 127 years old!
Perfect days indeed! I am pleased for the both of you. Nothing better in the happiness department then sharing love with a child and having it returned, win-win! 🙂 xo
AnElephant remembers you are all too aware of this special relationship.
I can just picture AnElephant strutting his stuff along Buchanan St., comparing his beautifully bronzed body to those of the peely wally Glaswegians!! Have a great trip and lots of fun with your beautiful boy.
Thank you again, sweet lady.
They have spent two brilliant days together.
Hello, how did that comment get here? I wrote it for your rather lovely and sad poem some days ago! I have only just read this one which is not poignant at all! I was going , am going, to congratulate you on that delightful rhyme of bicycle with writable! And to say have a wonderful time with your beautiful boy!
Safe travels home. 🙂
AnElephant thanks mesbelleschoses once again for all her support and comments.
He posted the poem Between the Raindrops on Saturday morning before setting off on his travels.
He then scheduled this post for Sunday morning.
Wordpress then appear to have somehow managed to confuse two entirely separate events, causing the poem to disappear completely!
But thank you for caring!
Haha excellent as always! I particularly love the line: ‘but he hopes to amaze/with his suntan because down here it is hot man.’ Hilarious. Love the ending too 🙂
Thank you, Jayde!
AnElephant is well known for his dire rhymes
At the most unexpected of times.
oh this is so beautiful thank you for sharing the beauty!
*MY GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD!*
