The Dear Green Place – Alastair’s Photo Fiction

AnElephantCant always write about Glasgow
So this week he has a smile on his face
Please don’t ask what is it
He just pays a visit
Back home to The Dear Green Place

This is a weekly invitation to write a short piece of fiction (c. 150 words) based on a photo prompt (below) provided by Alastair.
Follow the link to see some great stories by some great writers.
But obviously not as great as AnElephant’s little masterpiece.
Well, he has to say that, doesn’t he?

The Dear Green Place

At the entrance to the park, near the ice cream man, there are posters, poor photocopies, appealing for help.
Our sister is missing, last seen here on Sunday 28th July.
She may have appeared in distress.

There follows a description of the woman, her clothes, her age.
And a blurred photograph.
At his daughter’s house she hands him the same poster.
Did you hear about Lily? You remember her, I think you liked her, didn’t you? She gave me my first job.
Two hours later at his brother’s home two miles away, he stands gazing at a different green space.
He reads the text from his daughter.
They found her body in Kelvingrove.
Ron, he asks, already knowing the answer, what is this park called?
And, as the fog in his mind begins to clear, he feels the terror start to rise in his throat.

    Very well constructed narrative.

Scary – masterfully written. Tres bien.

  5. emmylgant says:

Tu vois ce coup-ci tu m’as donne la chair de poule quand je lisais la derniere phrase!
Excellent! La progression dans la narration se resserre comme un piege vers la conclusion impensable et terrifiante.

There’s something about this post Sir elephant that put a lump in my throat. Well done that you were able to achieve that.

Go on, say something, even if it's rude!
