AnElephantCant hide his tears
He can’t remember when he last shed so many
What on earth will it take
To replace the lovely Nightlake
And his favourite of all bloggers sweet Penny

This week we have a choice of prompt words.
Treasure or Despair.
AnElephant chooses this one.
His name is Vidock.
Named by her late husband, of course, after the legendary French bandit and criminologist, Eugène François Vidocq.
He is bi-lingual, and is her last link to those halcyon days in the Jura Mountains of eastern France.
Before the senseless skiing accident that finished everything.
But she still has Vidock.
A cross German Shepherd and Husky, he is handsome and powerful.
She is always safe with him
Although advancing in years, he still has the energy of a three-year old.
He seemed lethargic, under the weather.
She took him to the vet this morning.
as rainbow follows rain
darkness follows light
She now sits with her arms around his shaggy neck, weeping.
There is no hope.
She makes her decision.
She will take him back tomorrow, to end his pain.
the hardest decisions
made for those we love
leave us in despair
An excellent Haibun! Bravo. Beautiful composition, excellent choices of word usage, flowing so well. Just wonderfully written! xo
AnElephant is humbled by the effusiveness of this praise from the master of the genre.
But even more than that, he is happy that you enjoyed.
Beautifully expressed, your despair. Not an easy thing to do.
Not directly personal (see below) but someone who lives in AnElephant’s heart always.
But thank you for your kind words and your compassion.
So sorry to hear of your sadness. I’ve thought of the day when my dog will have to leave us. I will miss her as I still miss other pets who have gone before. Hope it helps to know we’re all here for you…
Not AnElephant’s personal sadness, Hugmamma, but that of someone he loves.
Your beautifully expressed kind wishes are gratefully received.
Thank you for your time and compassion.
😦 How sad. And – a tough decision indeed.
Thank you, RoSy, AnElephant knows he can always count on you for sympathy and support.
We had an Australian Shepard/ Collie mix for about nine years. We found her in a shelter. When we had to make that choice…to ease her pain. We never did, replace her. I remember you writing of this lovely fellow before so I believe this to be true. I sigh and share in shedding tears.
Hugs to you for a wonderful memorial.
Thanks, Jules, you are just too sweet for your own good!
Thank you for visiting, reading, and taking the time to comment.
Very happy you enjoyed it.
Vidock is her last memory of her husband, now gone..a true story, isn’t it…very sad..and thank you for your kind words for Penny and me:)
Well, based on fact, let’s say, Nightlake.
You are welcome, you have always been very kind to AnElephant and Penny, of course, is his dearest online friend.
AnElephant is delighted you enjoyed this, Bjorn, and always happy to see you here.

WOW! Beautiful sentiments. Thanks for a very lovely post. Have a great sunday.
AnElephant thanks you, dear lady, for taking the time to visit and share such warm words.
He is happy that you enjoyed.
Pleasure is mine my friend.
Magnifique creve-coeur. Tu es un tresor d’ecriture.
L’universalite des haikus est indisputable et la sobriete d’expression ajoute a leur puissance.
Toi aussi, tu es trop gentille.
Mais UnElephant est tres content qu’il te plait.
dear Sir elephant this is so beautifully written. Great haibun in deed.
Thank you, Sir ST2, you are more than kind, once again.
They’re paying me you know, big, big money!!!
