All at Sea – Sunday Photo Fiction

AnElephantCant always write a good story
He sadly has too many failings
But when he sees good ol’ Al’s pic
He scrawls this down quick
For once he finds the challenge plain sailing

This is a weekly invitation to write a short piece of fiction (c. 150 words) based on a photo prompt (below) provided by Alastair.
Follow the link to see some great stories by some great writers.

But yacht to read AnElephant’s little masterpiece of splash fiction while you are here.
Or just drift off to another blog.
Whatever floats your boat.

All at Sea

The bay is secluded, with only the occasional million dollar yacht anchored far off shore.
He smiles as he sees her from the cliff path.
She swims like an otter, sleek and lithe, barely disturbing the surface of the water.
It is almost five years since he last saw her, but he remembers everything about her, every detail of the preceding fifteen years.
He always said that he married her for her legs, which was never true, although they were spectacular.
But she was intelligent, educated and beautiful, and he had been stupid.
He left her with no choice, so she left him.
When he heard that she was living in this Mediterranean paradise – alone – he decided it was time to visit.
He pictures her emerging from the sea, her long tanned legs dripping water.
He imagines the heads turning as she strolls through the small town.
She must have wealthy suitors here, surely?
Then his world collapses as she reaches the shore and hops to the artificial limb lying under the towel.

You have to be fearless! Honestly, I groaned but laughed heartily.
Très bien construite ton histoire; j’adore la façon dont tu prépares la dernière ligne.

  6. Great story. I was caught up in possible reunion of love and wammo. I guess we’ll see if it was just her legs.
