AnElephantCant go on a boat trip
Without thinking that he is on holiday or vacation
That is an actual real rule
Not just one he makes up ‘cos it’s cool
So that is what he does for last week’s birthday celebration

He sets out from the port of Hyères
In sunshine under blue November skies
To the beautiful Isle of Porquerolles
Where angels set out their stalls
Because this is clearly an exquisite extension of a perfect paradise

This is a totally protected environment
Where Mère Nature is allowed to do her own thing
A million flowers and trees
Still hosting wopses and bees
And a myriad of wee birdies sweetly selflessly sing

The high seaside cliffs are what the French call Les Calanques
Rugged and steep and just a little bit scary
AnElephant stands at the top
Looking far down the drop
And thinks this looks the ideal place to spot mermaids and fairies

He sees a wondrous windmill and a life-saving lighthouse
Which prevents unwary ships sailing onto the rocks
A 16th-Century fort
Whether you are fit or not
These can all be reached by leisurely and well sign-posted walks

The little port is not much more than a village
But there is an abundance of bonnie boats cosily berthed
The lovely town square
Has courts for the boules players
This island is as inviting as anywhere on AnElephant’s earth
