Bed and Breakfast – Sunday Photo Fiction

AnElephantCant always be murderous
Although a gory death or two has a certain fascination
This week he says very little
Decides to be subtle
And leave it all up to your freaky imagination

This is a weekly invitation to write a short piece of fiction (c. 150 words) based on a photo prompt (below) provided by Alastair.
Just click on the link for an overnight stop in a little private hotel with a difference.
But please first read AnElephant’s price list.

Bed and Breakfast

She is a clever woman, my wife.
Well, clever and resourceful.
I mean, all we have is this little Bed & Breakfast place, two guest rooms, but somehow she makes it work for us.
And we are off the beaten track, only get a few ramblers and hill-walkers passing through, but we actually live quite well now.
We have money in the bank, a freezer stocked full of quality meat, a nice bottle of wine with dinner.
It wasn’t always like this, of course, we struggled until her crazy old uncle left her that strange machine.
I don’t know exactly what it does, she just laughs and tells me it makes her chores easier!
Which is lucky, she does most of the work.
I always check the guests in, but she is up early in the morning to see them off, then brings me breakfast in bed.
Bacon and eggs, sausage and black pudding, the best of stuff.
She must feed them well too, because she always goes to the butcher in the afternoon when we have had folk staying.
Although, strangely, her bags seem to look heavier when she leaves than when she gets home!
She is a clever woman, my wife.
And she certainly knows how to serve her guests.

  7. I think this guy’s saving grace is his utter lack of curiosity. If he starts asking too much, he might visit the special machine too. 🙂 Nice story and great last line.
