Rough Water – Sunday Photo Fiction

AnElephantCant always be inspired
Although some weeks he gets somewhat excited
But last Sunday’s wee story
Wins him in so much glory
That he is beginning to wish he doesn’t write it

This is a weekly invitation to write a short piece of fiction (c. 150 words) based on a photo prompt (below) provided by Alastair.
Follow the link to see a selection of sensational seafaring stories.
But please first dip your toe in AnElephant’s tepid pool of worried words.

Rough Water

We are so happy that you guys sorted out your problems, his friends say, as they watch her swim out to the rough water beyond the secluded cove.
I guess I had a mid-life crisis or some such nonsense, he replies.
He smiles at them, I know she is the only woman for me now.
I think I always knew that, just forgot for a while.
He shakes his head ruefully.
Why does she insist in always swimming out so far, someone asks.
He shrugs, You know her, she can be stubborn!
She does not see the dark shape of the scuba diver before his hand catches her ankle, pulling her brutally under.
By the time they notice that she is in difficulty and swim out to help her it is too late.
She is no longer breathing.
He, of course, is devastated.
Apparently.

  1. Hmm, he seems to have ‘sorted’ their problems out now, unless I’m reading it of course…

  2. I guess the ‘sorting out’ wasn’t quite what the others had in mind…. great tale, Mr Elephant!

I never did like swimming in the ocean even as a kid. This reminded me of being knocked over in the water by a boisterous dog and sat on. Good story as usual, Pachy 😉
