AnElephantCant drive an aeroplane
He is not designed to be a pilot
He has got such big ears
And from what he hears
Pilots who fly lots quite often hit the high spots
This is a weekly invitation to write a short piece of fiction (c. 150 words) based on a photo prompt (below) provided by Alastair.
Just click on the link to see some sky high stories in response to this week’s excellent prompt.
But please cast an eye over AnElephant’s down to earth drivel first.
Flight of Fancy
I am up at 5 a.m. for my flight to Edinburgh.
As the plane turns northwards out of Marseille Provence Airport, I get a magnificent view of the sun over the mountains to the east.
I think about writing something, but instead I close my eyes and drift off to sleep.
In my dream I am with the woman I love, flying to Paris on our honeymoon.
As is the way of these things, I am suddenly in the cockpit trying to avoid the mountain peak that fills my vision.
I think I have succeeded until I hear the crunch.
A wing tumbles in slow motion.
The plane spirals downwards, the screams of the passengers reverberating in my ears.
I waken with a start.
The screaming is all too real.
That’s a nightmare. No more flights for me. (I can drive to Edinburgh from Manchester in just a few hours.)

Yikes! That is not the way you want to wake up from a nightmare. To find it is not a nightmare at all. Fantastic
