Writing – Friday Fictioneers

AnElephantCant say he knows too much
About old things like valuable antiques
Which is a surprise
Because when he starts to rise
He squeaks and he freaks and he creaks

Once again it is Friday Fictioneer time.
A moment of tranquility from lovely Rochelle, who prompts her scrawling scribes to scribble scary stories.
And AnElephant stubs his pencil.
The idea is to write a very short story, circa 100 words, based on this picture prompt (below).
That’s it.

I sit at my old desk, writing.
I write everything out long hand first, before transferring it into the computer.
I am not good with these things.
I am old.
But today something is troubling me.
My eyes are drawn to the photo.
It shows me at my desk, writing.
I am alone here, have been for many years.
And yet the photo shows me, today.
The date shows clearly on the calendar, the one on my desk.
I do not believe in the supernatural, in ghosts or the like.
But I do wonder who took the photograph.
And when.

Dear Pachyderm, (Hope I spelt it right). Great story and I love to read your stuff as you are too clever and very smart. Elephants are smart too – Thanks, Nan

  2. Nice take! I wonder now, too, who and when?

  3. I believe I would be a little bit curious about that myself.

  4. Elephant, I agree that we seem to have drifted into the Twilight Zone againl Either that, or the old fellow is suffering from dementia of some sort. It can’t be too bad if he can still use a computer. Well written. 🙂 —Susan

Cool, Elephant! Nice beginning to a story, I would think, a much LONGER one. I’d love to read more.

  6. mscwhite says:

    Intriguing story!

  7. I loved your story! A mixture of fiction and real life, I guess?

Very intriguing, loved your idea with the calendar end the photo.

  9. A bit of intrigue or forgetfulness? Either way – nicely done.

  10. Dear Elephant,

Something mysterious and Twilight Zone-ish. I like and want to know more.

MMmmmm . . . nice bit of a mystery here, Elephant–shades of an old English romance novel it seems to me, almost along the lines of Dorian Grey.

    All my best,
    Marie Gail

  13. The call is coming from inside the house! Get out!
