she teaches

she teaches by phil burns

she teaches by phil burns

she teaches me such varied things
she brings me many gifts
she gives me lots of practice
when and why I must forgive

she teaches me to fall in love
with her starlit flashing eyes
but I am much too slow to learn
what is truth and what is lies

she teaches me to write the script
and how to play the part
I am an extra with no lines
to the backdrop of her heart

she teaches me the violin
shows me subtle ways to use it
then elegantly waltzes off
leaving me to face the music

she teaches me to plot and plan
how to create ingenious schemes
and then she laughs and walks away
from a poet’s broken dreams

Great rhythm and pace to this poem.
A soft shoe number to the sound of a heart breaking, facing the music alone.
Il y a une chanson ici peut être?

As always your words illuminate. Well written and thoughtful. What is a truth to one is often a lie to another, which seems like a dichotomy but I believe life is filled with those. Fascinating verse, Happy New Year. it seems I can’t get through the holiday season now without the ghosts of another holiday being omnipresent as well. Again, such is life. I do wish you very well. Have a creative and prosperous year! 🙂 xo
