AnElephantCant deny that he’s different
He tends to stand out in a crowd
His ears look better shrunk
He has tusks and a trunk
That holds more water than the average rain cloud
This is a weekly invitation to write a short piece of fiction (c. 150 words) based on a photo prompt (below) now provided by Joe.
Just click on the link to see stories as glorious as sunsets in response to this week’s excellent prompt.
But please first cast an eye over AnElephant’s foggy fable.
The Light
It is the light that makes Medville special.
This is what I tell her friend.
It is my honest opinion, because artists have been coming here for well over 100 years.
And she is an artist, like my beloved.
Who, of course, instantly disagrees.
She says that the light on the islands off the coast is just as inspiring.
I laugh.
What do I know, I ask, I am a writer, I make things up.
It is my first visit to her country, to meet her family and friends.
But the trip has gone well.
So when, all too soon, it is time for me to return to France, there is sadness.
We hug.
I love you, I tell her.
She smiles, wipes her eyes.
Don’t forget, I say.
How can I forget that, she laughs through the tears.
No, I remind her.
I am a writer, I make things up.
Tears on the shore always gets me AEC. Thanks for supporting SPF!

It certainly seems this bad some days, doesn’t it?

I love the way you set up your punch line. It always hits the mark. Sometimes it’s an ‘OMG!’ that stops my heart, and other times it’s more like ‘Oh he got me again!’ and you make me laugh or chuckle.
Yes you make things up beautifully.

Great story! The ending, “Im’ a writer and I make things up.” She doesn’t want her friend to forget something because she has made it up.

Thank you, Joy.
But the narrator, like AnElephant, is male!

Oh okay. I am sorry! The pink elephant threw me — sorry.

That’s okay, Joy, AnElephant does not feel his masculinity threatened!
It just puts a slightly different slant on the tale.

I am happy to have this made clear to me so I can see through correct lenses of thought. 😀 I’ll have to go back and re-read. Thank you!!
