AnElephantCant stay in one place
He says this with no irritation or rancour
What this reveals
Rather sadly he feels
Although he is big and heavy he is fairly hopeless as an anchor
This is a weekly invitation to write a short piece of fiction (c. 150 words) based on a photo prompt (below) provided by Alastair.

But please first cast an eye over AnElephant’s free-flowing fiasco.
I always think she looks as beautiful as a mermaid when we dive.
Her mane of golden hair flows behind her and, wearing flippers, her long slender legs are easily mistaken for a tail.
But her time has come.
I catch her shoulder, dislodge her mask as she turns.
I see the shock, the hurt, in her eyes as I tangle her hair in the anchor chain.
It has to look convincing.
Then I see the blood, and realise it is mine.
She has found my titanium dive knife and slashed my femoral artery.
She hacks through her hair and, using my reeling body as a launch pad, kicks for the surface.
As she disappears upwards through the rosy mist, I think she looks as beautiful as a mermaid.
Oh! Here I was getting all dreamy and romantic and Slash! You sliced that dream open!
Chilling but a good story
Thank you, Donna, AnElephant is happy you enjoyed.

Love as a life or death struggle. Mermaids are slippery when wet.
Especially when they purloin your dive knife!
They always say having a weapon is no assurance of safety, since it can be taken away and turned on you…
Aye, well, this one sure came back and bit his bum!
A wonderful story, that starts out calm and dreamy and suddenly we burst into horrific action. I loved this. Fabulous writing Elephant 🙂
Shucks, alittlebird makes AnElephant blush pinkly with her praise.
Happy you enjoyed.

Mermaids are dangerous creatures
I love how she gets away! The guy sounds like an absolute chilling predator. Great story!
Yeah, he ain’t such a sweetheart, is he?
Glad you enjoyed the bloody bits, Joy!
