Dear Prime Minister – Sunday Photo Fiction

AnElephantCant comment on politics
He’s a heffelump he doesn’t get to vote
But the rich have a laugh
While the poor continue to starve
Austerity is wrong and he thinks everyone must know it

This is a weekly invitation to write a short piece of fiction (c. 150 words) based on a photo prompt (below) provided by Alastair.
Just click on the link to see some terrific tales in response to this week’s excellent prompt.
But please first cast an eye over AnElephant’s loving letter.

Dear Prime Minister

I don’t like you.
I don’t like your associates.
I don’t like your politics.
I don’t like the fact that your policies have people queuing at food banks while your friends get richer.
So I have come up with a solution.
I have drawn up a list of 100 people, mainly your Party colleagues and your Big Business and City chums.
Not all of them, obviously, because there are thousands of these crooks out there.
Now, I am not going to tell you who is on my list, that might spoil the suspense.
But this is what I am going to do.
Or, to put it another way, this is what you are going to do.
You and your thieving cronies are going to solve the poverty problem.
Not next year.
Not next month.
You have the money and you have the power.
You can do it if you want to.
This is the deal.
I will shoot one person on my list every week until you fix this.
Did I mention I have a British Army L85A2 rifle, effective range 400 metres?
And that I can use it?
And that you are very high on my list?
The sun is about to set on your empire.
Have a nice day, sir.

  1. Erm! Mass surveillance is probably not your friend right now. Inventive interpretation of the prompt as ever!

You need any help? I’m here for you.

  3. phylor says:

Had me at “heffelump” and cheering at the end! Now, if this became a global movement . . .

  4. EagleAye says:

That ought to be a wakeup call!

  5. Great story! I think you got your point across loud and clear. 😀

  6. Francesca Smith says:

I agree with Dave, and this is amusing.

  7. My type of story!

  8. Dave says:

“Look Marge, it’s the Death Threat of the Week letter.” “Shall I file it with all the others, sir?”

  9. emmylgant says:

    Well done!
you set up the story beautifully to its jaw dropping conclusion topped with a nice sarcastic salutation.
Here, AEC becomes the Voice of the Vulnerable, Vendetta style (the movie).
Across borders this post reflects the frustration of failing democracies I think.

Go on, say something, even if it's rude!
