to love AnElephant

The Wanderer by Phil Burns

The Wanderer by Phil Burns

it isn’t easy to love AnElephant
who thinks he’s a butterfly
he goes where he pleases
as if carried on breezes
he is more likely to laugh than to cry

he wanders the globe like a trade wind
he doesn’t stay long in one place
he calls nowhere home
he is content to roam
loving everyone not only one face

AnElephant was settled a long time ago
in what seems like a previous life
the lines round his eyes
tell it is no surprise
he had children and a quite perfect wife

but times change and he changes faster
he moves and they do not go with him
he travels alone
the past is long gone
he dances to his own unique rhythm

a pretty lady may feed him fresh peanuts
she may even tickle his ear
he gives her fair warning
by tomorrow morning
it is certain he will not be here

it isn’t easy to love AnElephant
who thinks he’s a butterfly
he goes where he pleases
as if carried on breezes
but in the darkness you may soft hear him cry

  2. Dear Elephant,

I feel sad for this flighty elephant. But it sounds like there’s a great part of him that prefers this lifestyle. Love to listen to his voice.

    Shalom,

    • No need to feel sad, Rochelle, tiny moments of darkness make the light so much brighter.
AnElephant just reads as he talks, his voice is part of who he is.
Thank you for taking the time to read, listen and comment.
