falling in love

before and after by phil burns

before and after by phil burns

falling in love is the easiest thing
or the most difficult in the whole world
it makes no difference if you are a grey grizzled old fool
or a delightfully pretty young girl

he gets a message from his sweetheart
he hasn’t seen since way back when
he reads the words her tears have stained
his heart breaks once again

she says that she still thinks of him
that she will always care
she promises him her love forever
but she’s not going anywhere

he has to do what he must do
she understands he is aching
he has to go where he must go
that is the choice he’s making

she turns back at the crossroads
he travels on to east or west
as he looks round she walks away
and is gone like all the rest

falling in love is the easiest thing
but it always ends in pain
it makes no difference if you are a grey grizzled old fool
you will never see her again
