Click here to hear the poem read aloud:
if we should ever meet again
when I return from exile
I know your eyes will light up
and you’ll greet me with that smile
if we should ever meet again
when I am old and grey
you will stroke my hair so tenderly
ask me why I stayed away
if we should ever meet again
you strong and me defenceless
your hand will gently touch my hand
say our parting was so senseless
if we should ever meet again
you will fondly reminisce
talk of the years we were together
recall the sweetness of each kiss
if we should ever meet again
when the skies are springtime blue
you will tell me that you love me
promising that it’s still true
if we should ever meet again
it will be no great surprise
when you laugh at me as always
and repeat those same old lies
Sounded so hopeful and this piece just flows so well it’s a shock at the end when you write that she’ll “laugh” at your speaker and repeat “those same old lies.” He knows better she does too but it seems that never the two shall meet again. Hugs CE hope you’re having a great week!
