Click here to hear this poem read aloud by the poet:
do you believe
do you still believe in Santa Claus
and hang your stocking every Christmas
do you recall the present you gave me
your heart gift-wrapped in kisses
do you still believe in Camelot
and fragrant damsels in distress
in the noble knight who gave his life
as I did to you in my sworn quest
do you still believe in ancient tales
enchanted forests where dragons roam free
and the saving lips of the handsome prince
once upon a time I rescued thee
do you still believe in fairy godmothers
who wave a wand to create joy and laughter
in big bad wolves and poisoned apples
a glass slipper and happily ever after
do you still believe in magic
in wondrous things no one can understand
do you still believe in love my love
the future life that we have planned
do you still believe in in anything
mermaids playing harps beneath the sea
ancient gods or golden unicorns
did you ever believe in me
Great poem and interesting statue

This says to me that this speaker has an active imagination and keeps their inner child alive in well no matter his age. When I think of stories and magic I think of possibility, that anything has the potential to be; your speaker has hope. And hope and possibility are great treasures. Whether his love does or not. I don’t know. Some people change, they grow old inside and even though there is a potental for magic, they’ve resigned themselves to here and now and to a life without magic. Even alone, I think you are always better off with hope. So Elephant, keep hoping, maybe unexpected goodness will come your way in ways you do not expect. Hugs as always my friend.

Ah Amanda, your support and encouragement means much to a sad Elephant.
As do your hugs

You are always welcome Elephant. I just always hope you will feel less sad, but I do also recognize there are some holes inside us that don’t heal. I hope this isn’t one of them 🤗💕

Godmothers, tales, Camelot, magic … yep I believe. Nice to be able to deploy this poetic airbag when the going gets rough. Nice one Bri!

Lovely poem. The last line conveys so much sadness and disillusionment.

What is life if you don’t have some belief in magical things? Although, most damsels do not need rescued by a Prince. They prefer to fight along side of them.
