broken steps

broken steps by anelephantcant

Click here to hear the poet read his words:

broken steps

broken steps hang above the beach
suspended in bleak mid air
once full of purpose now forgotten
no longer leading anywhere

the hut itself lies derelict
paint flakes from wind worn wood
the staircase stumbling down from there
reflects my wretched mood

passing time can change so much
salt and spray erode destroy
like tears that flow from sunken eyes
leaving them bereft of joy

the pebbles rumble in the waves
the sands drift out to sea
like memories that disappear
when you decide you must be free

the three tall pines sway gently still
the palm trees tower high
the clouds gather low above the leaves
like me the sky begins to cry

for my life too is pointless now
without your love I cannot care
broken steps hang above the beach
no longer leading anywhere

Such despair abd such a vivid image of these stairs to no where, a derelict cottage. I hope Elephant, this is the speaker or you (the persona), not the writer feeling this pain. Hugs and a kisses on the cheek too.

Go on, say something, even if it's rude!
