favourite game

in the café by anelephantcant

favourite game

you laugh as I look on despondent
you love to play your favourite game
you have changed your face so often
only I still know your name

in the café in the main street
I smiled but you were unimpressed
it seemed although I spoke your language
you saw a quite unwelcome guest

but day by day you slowly softened
till one day you touched my hand
told me that you’d suffered badly
asked me please to understand

then you slyly led me forward
in careful steps across your map
every stop sign every crossroad
till I plunged headlong in your trap

you stripped me of my emotions
you took all that I held dear
left me helpless in my blindness
cloaked in misery and fear

and now I too have changed so often
you alone still know my name
you laugh as I look on despondent
you love to play your favourite game

    Really enjoyed that verse.
And the (almost) repeat of the change that occurs in an unequal relationship.

I also love the photo you used

Go on, say something, even if it's rude!
