when you left

daffodils and daisies by anelephantcant

Click here to hear the poet read his words:

when you left

when you left you took the sunshine
you took the summer and the spring
you took the daffodils and daisies
you took the songs the songbirds sing

you took the autumn evenings
you took the moonlit night
you plucked the stars out of the sky
you extinguished all the light

you left behind the winter
the snow fall thick and fast
you blew the hailstones in my face
the leaden icy blast

you took the joy out of my life
you took the smooth left just the rough
you took everything I care about
the smile and the heart I love
