rain falls eternally by anelephantcant

Click here to hear the poet read his words:

I clamber up the mountains
quench a thirst from ice cold stream
breathe sharp air into gasping lungs
try to climb out of this dream

I stagger to the waterfall
see the clouds rise from the rocks
but nothing can disguise the sound
of the tongue that never talks

I limp down to the valley
where the wretched river flows
crawl desperately towards the sea
to seek the word that no one knows

I stumble through the puddles
the rain falls eternally
your reflection boldly mocking
while my eyes stare back blindly

for water is like last year’s love
swallows hope like flooding earthquakes
seeping in through tiny cracks
like memories and heartaches
