the children

where by anelephantcant

Click here to hear the poet read his words:

the children

where are the children
the question once more raised
why are they so hard to find
are they already in their graves

where are the children
we think it’s time to speak
but governments and schools evade
the answers that we seek

where are the children
a question decades old
we suspect the ghastly truth
that makes the blood run cold

where are the children
the flowers of the brave
the petals scatter in the wind
to cover unmarked graves
