shimmering light

shimmering light by anelephantcant

Click here to hear the poet read his words:

shimmering light

why do I pursue you
what have I to gain
where is the smile
that once upon a time
brightened my life
warmed my soul
and
enchanted my heart

your withdrawal was so gradual
that at first I did not see
the signs that you sent
telling me quite clearly
that
your love was as cold
as the shimmering light
from a long-dead star

because
of course
my love
I closed my eyes
and my ears
and left open
only myself
