There are some questions that are rarely asked
Like where do dreams go when we waken
Do they stay inside
Our heads and hide
Or do they float around until fairies take them
What is the point of their concealment
Of loitering deep down in the brain
No matter what
We may have thought
We can never start the same dream again
Sometimes they linger on the edge
We strive to recapture that lost bliss
But nonetheless
Sweet hopelessness
Is the inevitable result of this
They slip so quietly to the corners
We can almost taste the flavours yet
Intangible
But softly painful
We can’t catch shadows so we sadly forget
But are they memories or foresight
Or just our wishes freshly died
Forgotten pleasures
Guilty treasures
Do any of us still believe in Freud
So where do dreams go when we waken
Do they fragment or remain steadfastly whole
Do they live on in our eyes
Do they reach Paradise
AnElephant believes that they feed on his soul

Dear Elephant,
AnElephantCan paint word pictures that put me in mind of the swirling stars in Van Gogh’s work. Visually pleasant, contemplative with a touch of whimsy. Love it.

I think dreams stay inside of us. I don’t think they ever do die. 🙂 xo

AnElephant places great trust in Penny’s wise words.
And he hopes that it is true of the nice ones but not those dark scary beasts which sometimes appear!
Thank you for your comments.

Lovely poem, made me think of our Grandson who asked one morning how could he delete the dreams he had in the night.

Wonderful dreamy poem. My theory: they stay in dreamland waiting for us to come back. 🙂

Mine are mostly horrible nightmares so I am glad when they end and evaporate.

Dreams are there to give us a television to watch whilst we are asleep.
They may also be a memory of what has been or what is yet to come.
Maybe they reach into your soul, no matter how very deep
Some, especially the nightmares, cause you to awaken feeling numb.

Wow, Al, getting deep there, my friend!
But yes, one of life’s intriguing mysteries.

It happens occasionally hehe.
I know I had a repetitive nightmare that finally came true 11 years after I first started having it. That was scary. But it wasn’t exactly the same. It was a dream about my son in a coffin. The actuality of it was that a part of his life dramatically changed.

I think it always goes back to fairies! Wonderful little creatures and maybe dream weavers…keepers…..protectors? Lovely again.
