AnElephantCant stay in Scotland much longer
Where he heads off to now nobody knows
He is looking quite smart
As he makes a fresh start
With new luggage and some real cool new clothes
Well okay he already tells you
That he is returning to France
Does he think that his accent
That makes him so different
Is the key in his search for romance
Or is he just going for sunshine and swimming
To escape the bleak weather of Scotland
Does he seek new frontiers
In his declining years
To relax with his feet up in a hot land
He wants to walk in the footsteps of Vincent
And see the Cypress Trees he painted so grand
He wants to gaze at the Stars
Over Le Montagne St Victoire
So brilliantly portrayed by Cezanne
He wants to stroll round the bay at Cassis
Where the Scottish Colourists were inspired by the light
Maybe go to Marseille
And from way up high
Gaze over Le Chateau d’If when it is lit up at night
But mostly he wants to relax his old body
And paddle his tootsies in La Med
Perhaps he just might
Find inspiration to write
All the rat-rhymes* that pop into his head
*Scots for a bit of doggerel, a poetic outpouring
I wish you all the best.

Simon says your homeward bound
The Med lies silently waiting
If your luggage can be found
Your tootsies will be wading
happily, your trunk swinging.
