I remember the day that you left me
and the last thing that I ever heard
the door that you slammed behind you
why didn’t you tell me you cared

all the years that we spent together
I thought you found me boring and stale
I tried always to help you be happy
I knew long ago I had failed

the routines that grew into deep ruts
the good times that happened no more
the joy and the laughter we once had
left long before you closed that door

I remember your face that sad morning
a raised voice a long angry stare
I have only one question my true love
why didn’t you tell me you cared
