Doors – Friday Fictioneers

AnElephant is easily confused by doors
He finds it difficult to handle keys bolts and locks
The question is posed
What marvel can be enclosed
He can’t guess so he lifts up his trunk and just knocks

He is once again trying to gain entry to Friday Fictioneers, having to first circumvent the doorkeeper in the shape of mighty Rochelle, protector of the regulations.
Which are: write a 100 word story based on picture prompt (below).

But betcha they are not funny as AnElephant’s hilarious little piece.
Prepare to hurt you sides laughing!

As one door opens

He never goes through the park without pausing to commune with the great Parasol Pine.
It is a magnificent tree, perhaps 150 years old, and he feels as though it understands his pain.
He runs his hand over the rough bark, telling it this may be his last visit.
He is being eaten alive from within by a debilitating illness which is very close to reducing him to an incompetent wreck, incapable of caring for himself.
He is already well on his way to suffering a slow and excruciatingly painful exit.
The huge branch crashes down, instantly ending his agony.

  2. That was a surprising ending – and the only mention of the doors is the opportunity of exiting life. I particularly liked your poem this week, by the way.

I will have to remember that when I feel bad, don’t talk to trees. I guess it did it in sympathy. But whoa. It was very creative though. Good for you 🙂

I am in awe of your writing! Your take on the photo is so creative. You captured the pain and despair of a slow lingering death so well. A swift exit is what we all hope for.

At least we can look to the trees for kindness. Good for him that the tree saw what needs to be done.

What a wild ending! You hug a tree, and sometimes it hugs back, I guess.

I must admit, I never considered death by tree a good way to go, but you make a good argument for it under the right circumstances.

  16. Wow, what a great story. I like how you seemingly ignored the doors in favor of the tree, yet tied it all together with the idea of exiting.

The tree understood him more than he realized, or it just needed some fertilizer. Good job.

  24. Dear Elephant,

Well, that was humorous in a dark sort of way. Sympathetic and kindly old tree, that. I love your verse and intro this week.
