Star of Cage and Screen

director

AnElephantCant be a great actor
He hasn’t the talent of Brando or Newman
To win an Oscar
He must be less bizarre
The problem is that he’s not even human

There have been some wonderful animals
In movies some real world beaters
Jaws Dumbo and Bambi
Born Free The Monkees
And Tarzan’s cute little chimp he’s called Cheetah

In cartoons there’s Jessica Rabbit
Goofy and Pluto and 1001 doggies
But no animal movie
Is nearly as groovy
As Casablanca with super cool Bogie

There are no beastly stars like De Niro
They are not in the class of Steiger or Poitier
Hopkins or Crowe
Hanks or Pacino
Or Olivier a man even haughtier

There are no animal films like The Godfathers
Or Kramer v Kramer about a man and his wife
No Ghandi or The Sting
No Lord of the Rings
No Chariots of Fire or It’s a Wonderful Life

So AnElephant must settle for a bit part
One of those little folk who don’t get a second look
He is just an extra
Perhaps strolling along next to
Colonel Hathi in the amazing Jungle Book

I saw a recent movie in which an elephant was the hero. He dies in the end trying to save a village from another wild elephant..

  2. The old Hollywood movies always had a shot of a dog doing a this or that for a touch of cuteness – pretty corny if you ask me.

Oops!! Meant Hannibal Brooks. Hee hee! Quite a different film altogether. I’m tired-had my wonderful 4year old grandson to stay for 3 days and i should be asleep at this time of night.

  5. Horton the Elephant was the first elephant I fell in love with. Don’t think he’s ever been in a movie but – I’ve just looked him up and he has! Bet he won’t match up to my childish love.. 🙂

    • AnElephantCant compete with Horton
He knows that is really no use
      Because he is created
      By the still underrated
Amazing incredible wonderful magical fantastically brilliant Dr Seuss

Emmy is tout a fait doubtful
    That AnElephantCant be a star
He doesn’t have a military style,
But Can hoot and strum a guitar…
Wee rhymes and a sad smile
    Make him twoderful
    Which is a second look
    In any one’s book.

Well dumbo wasn’t the first elephant I ever saw in a film. I think it was in a tarzan movie on tv. I really enjoyed both the verses and the façon très intelligente you included a wide variety of creatures with a wide variety of movies. 🙂
